Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular media. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. In addition, Sarkeesian explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and for other groups who have been marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. In addition to being a well-known public speaker she has made presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a young age. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she launched the Feminist Frequency site. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. But the harassment did not hinder her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women in popular media narratives.
